Often referred to as the 'Wake', the reception that often follows a funeral can be an important part of the funeral celebrations. The reception is an opportunity for family and friends to get together in a more informal setting to the funeral and to remember the person who has died.
It is usual to have light refreshments available at such a reception; in our opinion a light finger buffet works well as people are able to move around and be more social than they would otherwise be at a more formal meal. It is also much easier to cater for numbers.
Often a family will have the reception at home either catering for themselves or asking the assistance of an outside caterer.
Otherwise, a family may consider a location away from home. If there is an association with a particular club then the way forward may well be obvious.
In our opinion the most important consideration is convenience of location; if you are hoping people will join you and for the reception to be a success you need to make it convenient. Distance from the funeral and the parking available when you get there are therefore important considerations.
We offer the use of Harbour Lodge to our clients; this is the lodge in the grounds of Harbour View Woodland Burial Ground to the west side of Poole.
