Home Farm at Harbour View

At Harbour View, Nature and Remembrance Grow Together

Have you ever thought about how a place of rest could also be a place of life? Picture wildflowers swaying gently in the breeze, rare breed chickens wandering freely, and bees humming as they gather pollen. Imagine knowing that the land where your loved one is remembered actively supports the natural world around it.

These moments of connection between memory and nature are at the heart of what we do at Harbour View. Home Farm is more than just land. It's a living, working farm that nurtures biodiversity, supports sustainability, and helps us care for the families we serve in the most natural way possible.

Harbour View and Home Farm

What is Home Farm?

Home Farm is an integral part of our grounds and our environmental vision. It's a working, sustainable farm managed by our dedicated team to support local wildlife, reduce our environmental impact, and enrich the lives of those who visit us. It plays a vital role behind the scenes, helping Harbour View operate in harmony with nature.

We believe that remembrance should support life, and life should give back. Home Farm embodies this philosophy. Every element, from the wildflowers we grow to the eggs our chickens lay, contributes to a cycle of care that touches everything we do.

Wildflowers and Biodiversity

Walk through our grounds and you'll see wildflowers blooming in abundance. These aren't just for beauty, though they certainly bring colour and calm to the landscape. They're grown specifically to support local wildlife, particularly bees and other pollinators that are so vital to our ecosystem.

Our in-house floristry team uses these blooms to create natural floral tributes and arrangements for services. It's a gentle reminder that nature can be part of every farewell. We've also installed a purpose-built bat hotel, providing a safe haven for native bat species and helping to protect these important nocturnal pollinators.

From Farm to Table

Home Farm's polytunnels are always busy with seasonal produce. We grow fruits, vegetables, and fresh herbs that are used by our catering team for funeral gatherings, remembrance teas, and community events. There's something deeply comforting about sharing food that's been grown with care on the same land where you're gathered to remember someone special.

Our orchard produces fruit that finds its way into cakes, preserves, and refreshments served throughout Harbour View. It's another example of how the land directly supports the people who visit, with everything coming full circle, creating a sense of connection that feels right.

Rare Breed Chickens and Home-Grown Honey

One of the joys of Home Farm is our flock of rare breed chickens, which can number anywhere from around 50 to around 100. They're lovingly cared for by our team, and their eggs are used in our kitchens, adding another layer of natural, sustainable self-sufficiency to everything we do.

Our beehives are equally important. The bees play a vital role in pollination across the site, supporting biodiversity while producing honey that our catering team uses in cakes and the refreshments we serve. It's all part of our commitment to working with nature rather than against it.

A Circle of Sustainability

Everything at Home Farm contributes to our goal of operating responsibly and sustainably. Together with our solar energy, natural burial options, and low-impact practices, Home Farm helps us reduce our environmental footprint while enhancing the natural beauty of the site.

We actively reduce pesticide use, compost floral tributes and food waste to avoid landfill, and encourage natural coffins to lessen the ecological footprint of every service. Since 2005, we've planted over 10,000 trees, and our metal recovery programme has raised thousands of pounds for local hospices. Home Farm is simply the latest chapter in our ongoing commitment to caring for the environment.

Here, memory, legacy, and land thrive together. Remembrance supports life, and in doing so, offers a glimmer of light during difficult times.
