Jairus' Funeral - extra instructions, please read
Dear Family and Friends,
Welcome to Jairus's Book of Remembrance. We openly invite you all to share memories and messages, etc here. We will treasure every entry, as we reflect on and celebrate Jairus’s life. Please send videos and photo's, links to favorite songs direct to Sophie and Pip to the email below. There will also be a physical remembrance book to sign in the Long Barrow.
Programme for funeral day - Saturday 25 May 2024:
10.00am – coach for Jairus’s friends departs Clapham Junction. Meeting point in London - Grant Road, North side of Clapham Junction. Look for a white mini-coach, journey includes an approx. 30 min stop off. Current bus occupants are: Rafe, Jack, Zac, Seb & Amanda (but only on the way), Henry & Claire, Katherine, Alona, Jo, Caley, Mary, Phil & Claire.
2.00 - 2.30pm – Arrive at Harbour View – it is a beautiful setting with lots of outdoor space so you can stretch your legs, have refreshments etc.
2.30pm – Funeral service due to begin
4pm – Food and drinks served
6.30pm – All depart. Coach returns to London at about 5.30pm, to arrive in Clapham at around 8.30pm.
Traffic: Please leave extra time as it is a Bank Holiday weekend and there are often holiday-makers in and around Bournemouth/Poole, although Harbour View is in the countryside. The scheduled journey time from Clapham Junction without traffic is approx 2.5 hours.
People to listen and pray: there will be a number of guests wearing badges that say “I’M HERE TO LISTEN”. If anyone needs someone to talk to or pray with over the course of the day, please feel free to just ask one of these people. Once Jairus has left the sanctuary himself, it will re-open so that it can be used as place to be quiet, reflect, talk or pray with someone if needed.
Harbour View is in a beautiful countryside setting with lots of outdoor space, so if it is a lovely day, there are options for taking time out surrounded by nature too.
Joining in London / Livestream - watch with friends…
Jairus’s School, Thames Christian School, are very kindly hosting a livestream of the funeral on-site for anyone who would like to attend that way, but also be together with others. If you would like to do that, please could you email to let them know on: Cblower@thameschristianschool.org.uk
The doors will open at 2pm. Address: Thames Christian School, 12 Grant Road, London SW11 2FR Tel: 020 7228 3933
Dress code:
Just come as you are! Black is not necessary, although of course an option for those who want to wear it. Be free…Jairus hated having to smarten up, so we want everyone to feel comfortable and come in whatever makes them happy!
Venue capacity:
The venue is quite a flexible space, but only seats 165, so we are believing we will be able to accommodate everyone who wants to come in person. Some of the younger ones may have to stand or sit on the floor but we’re sure you won’t mind too much! Please be sensitive to anyone who needs a seat more than you. If you know you can't come either now or at the last minute, please let us know as someone else can then take your place. There is an overflow area in the Purbeck Tea-room, where the service can also be heard and watched.
RSVP: pipandsophs@aol.com
We very much want 25th May to be an occasion where we are able to come together and celebrate the many wonderful things about Jairus and his life. He would not want us to be formal or sombre…as one of his lovely friends so beautifully put it in her letter, he’s having the best time “dancing in the sky with angels” now, finally fully alive in the heavenly place his heart yearned for.
A special note to Jairus’s ‘young’ friends
At some point in the future, when the ‘dust has settled’, exams are over and you have all had a brilliant summer celebrating and feeling free from all that pressure, we would love to help facilitate a special event just for you. It would be your special time to do whatever it is you would like to do, to gather together, with the common bond of your friendship with Jairus. You can all decide on the how, what, where, when etc, but we just wanted to offer you that option if and when the time is right. As we have expressed before, we are deeply grateful for each and every one of you, and the joy and friendship your brought to his life – it is truly the greatest comfort to know how much you all valued and loved him, and how much fun you all had together. He loved time with his friends so much. THANK YOU!
We want to say the biggest thank you for the most extraordinary outpouring of love, prayer, support and kindness that you have shown us since this happened. Truly it has been a source of strength and comfort beyond words.
With all our love
Pip, Sophie and Lily xxx

Donations to Charity
Some credit card providers charge very large commissions upon transactions; some as much as 3%. We consider this to be too high and therefore do not accept some cards, including American Express and some variations of Master Card and Visa including those suffixed with ‘Corporate’, ‘Business’ or ‘World’. Normal Master Card and Visa should be fine. Transactions attempted with the higher charging credit cards will be declined by our Sagepay Account. If this should prove to be the case, we hope you understand that we cannot afford to lose 3% on a transaction charge, especially on in memorium donations where we pass on 100% of your donation to the charity and we pay the commission to the credit card companies.
If you have ticked the box titled ‘Gift Aid?’ then you confirm that you are a UK Income or Capital Gains taxpayer. That you have read this statement and want the named charity or Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) to reclaim tax on the donation detailed on this form, given today. That you understand that You must pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in the tax year at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities and CASCs you donate to, will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year. That you understand that other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify. That you understand the charity will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that you have given.
Please notify us or the charity or CASC if you:
-
Want to cancel this declaration
-
Change your name or home address
-
No longer pay sufficient tax on your income and/or capital gains.
If you pay Income Tax at the higher or additional rate and want to receive the additional tax relief due to you, you must include all your Gift Aid donations on your Self Assessment tax return or ask HM Revenue and Customs to adjust your tax code.
