Service Chapels and Locations

At Harbour View we offer a number of options for families to celebrate a funeral service alongside the burial or cremation.

One of our highest priorities when arranging a funeral is to ensure that more than adequate time is provided for the occasion; there is no question of a service being rushed or any perception of pressure from unrelated funerals/mourners.

While some funerals are simple and require little time, if it needs to take all day then that is exactly the time we will allocate.

Below you will find a list of the options that are available on site at Harbour View. In addition to these, some families have a connection with a church and in such circumstances we are often asked to arrange the funeral service in church in addition to a committal burial or cremation.

Harbour Lodge

The lodge is a simple and informal building of wooden construction. It resembles a log cabin and is located directly by the car park nearest to the Limberlost Junction at the top of Randalls Hill (the northern most side of Harbour View). It is fully serviced with heating and toilets, has music playing facilities and enjoys views through glass patio doors over the grounds.

A congregation of 45 people can be accommodated and the seating arrangements are usually made in consultation with the family to provide the most intimate setting. The lodge has a decked area beyond the patio doors and this area can be enclosed with an awning to facilitate a larger congregation. The lodge is often used for hosting refreshments after a service (or Wake as it is often referred to).

The Long Barrow Ceremony Hall

As from Autumn 2017 the new Long Barrow Ceremony Hall we be available for funeral services.
The ceremony hall has been designed to resemble the burial mounds or long barrows that our ancestors used for similar purposes. Although it is a large building, it will be blend into the environment with its grassed berm sides and Sedum roof.
The ceremony hall will be able to accommodate large congregations and yet will retain intimacy for even the smallest of congregations due to clever use of seating and partitioning. Suitable car parking complements the chapel, along with ancillary facilities such as catering.

Marquee

There are a number of areas at Harbour View where a marquee can be erected to accommodate a funeral service. This may happen to be very close to a grave that is to be used for the burial, but not necessarily so. The size and type of marquee is selected subject to the needs to the day.

Graveside/Open Air

A funeral service outdoors in the grounds of Harbour View can be a very positive experience. There is something quite profound about being surrounded by the beautiful grounds and the sounds of nature while looking out over the views beyond on a pleasant day. However, as there can be no guarantees with the weather, there is some degree of risk involved. It may be possible to have our chapel facility available as a substitute should the weather do its worst.

The Barn

The Barn is a renovated part of the original farm buildings some of which date back to mid-Victorian times.
Re-designed to provide a spacious and bright space, The Barn offers an informal atmosphere for a mid-sized congregation to celebrate a funeral service. All modern facilities are integrated to the chapel including excellent music playing and photographic display.

The Barn is also used for after funeral refreshments.
